Welcome to the West Quoddy Head State Park Trails site. This site promotes one of Maine's pristine state parks. The park's famous red and white striped lighthouse is a marvel that is a well known landmark on the east coast of Maine. A wondrous sight well worth a visit to the park; however, this park holds more beauty and adventure within its boundaries. The aqua blue water sparkles in the afternoon sun, and lobster boats dart back and forth stopping long enough to pull a lobster trap and then they move on to another. Numerous birds dot the shoreline and others lazily ride the updrafts rising from the ocean along the rugged coastline. From the cliffs I have watched different species of waterfowl dive, searching for prey in the depths. If you are lucky you may hear and see whales, surfacing to breathe, as they pass beneath the cliffs. Seals hunt and play along the shore of this beautiful coastline sometimes providing humorous antics that will leave you wondering. West Quoddy Head State Park also provides breathtaking scenery and spectacular rock beaches that are accessible. Unique cliff formations provide one of the most thunderous blowholes on the east coast. You can sit on High Ledge and gaze out over the channel soaking in the serene beauty and hear nothing but the wind in the trees. West Quoddy Head State Park also has inner trails that lead you on a magical journey through the heart of the park. Here you will see a variety of plants and trees common to the area. The bog trail consists of a wooden walkway that winds through a live, healthy bog (please stay on the walkway because these plants are fragile). Carrying Place Cove, a large sandy beach, is a wonderful place to go beach combing. You may find some old lobster buoys, which make wonderful souvenirs, or maybe you would just like to get some sand between your toes. This park has something to offer to all. Check us out!
